I HEART AMERICA!

Happy Independence Day!!!

As we celebrate our nation's anniversary of independence from "Fat George", let us keep in our hearts and minds the sacrifices the militia men and their families had made to make this land a Nation. The same holds true for the troops of today deployed all over the world who are fighting for the freedoms we have and continue to enjoy. Beltway Bob always signs off with a thanks to our troops (see footer) but an extra thanks during this great American holiday is in order.  We salute you!

And what better way to celebrate than to have a drink or two! Doesn't sound right, to you?  Well, according to Wikipedia: "In 1778, General George Washington marked Independence Day with a double ration of rum for his soldiers and an artillery salute."  If it's good enough for the father of our country (and first President, and leader of the Continental Army), it's more than good enough for B'Bob.  So, go ahead and have a couple of brews.  Go shoot off some fireworks (if it's legal in your area). I'd stay clear of doing your own artillery salute, though. But show respect to your nation and its people by celebrating in a responsible manner.

Happy Hour Announcement

Happy Hour this week will be at a great American venue: Cafe Asia in Arlington!

Huh?!?  Cafe Asia for July 4th?  Why, YES!  What better way to celebrate America than to affirm that she really is a melting pot.  "As American as apple pie" is a common saying, but honestly, I've eaten Chinese food more recently (and more frequently) than I've eaten apple pie. So celebrate America's cultural diversity!  Besides, you can't go wrong with $2 drafts (ask your bar staff which ones are $2).
