Charity

This year’s DC Red Dress Run will be dedicated to Dan Stringer, Scott “Rubber Maiden” Wheeler, and Beer Fairy, DC-area Hash House Harriers who were taken from us by brain cancer.

A brain cancer diagnosis remains a death sentence for most patients. The life expectancy of those suffering from gliomas, the most common and most aggressive form of brain tumor is only 9-12 months. But this year, we’re going to fight back … and drink beer, of course.

The 2012 DC Red Dress Run will benefit the Beer for Brains Foundation, a national, 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization of craft-beer lovers, distributors and brewers. They support the development of cutting-edge brain cancer research and treatment options at the new Barrow Brain Tumor Research Center (BTRC), in Phoenix, AZ. Half of the funds we raise will be directed toward brain cancer research and treatment right here in the Washington, DC area. Check out the Beer for Brains Foundation

Last year, the DC Red Dress Run raised more than $10,300 for two charities; Fisher House Foundation and Food & Friends. What’s more, not a dime of the money raised came from your base registration fee. When you register, please consider clicking the option to make a voluntary donation.

Additionally, please consider volunteering and participating in the various fundraising events to be held between now and the Red Dress Run. Last year we auctioned off Registration #1 and #69, held auctions, raffles, a beer dinner, and a band party. The Lady in Red, who after accidentally starting the first Red Dress Run, asked that the tradition continue as an opportunity to give back to the communities in which we hash. For more information on the history and traditions of the Hash House Harriers Red Dress Run, see www.RedDressRuns.org.
